Cecile Fletcher

Cecile’s mission in her art is to create pieces that evoke a sense of intimacy. With her portrait drawings, Cecile captures the spirit of her subjects, crafting likenesses that become cherished keepsakes. She is excited to offer charcoal and pencil portraits and small oil painting commissions with the Artist Collective. “In our lives, we are ever changing, flowing into the spaces where we belong. In this season, I am an artist-mother, witnessing my children evolve, nurturing and loving them. I feel acutely sensitive to this precious time. My art strives to give the parent a lasting impression of this time.” Cecile is profoundly shaped by her roots and a diverse professional background. Growing up in New Orleans, she developed a deep appreciation for the layers of ancestry, cultures, spirituality, humanity and the natural world that define her environment—an interplay of the new and the old. Her studies of architecture and design inform her deliberate marks on paper, allowing her to create art that resonates across these layers. Cecile graduated from Louisiana State University with a BA in Interior Design, and a minor in photography. She studied art history in Florence, Italy where she fell in love with classical painting and drawing. Her career includes invaluable experiences working with award winning design firms in Aix-en-Provence, Atlanta and New Orleans. In Charleston, she played a key role in the early years of the Charleston Artist Collective, helping to establish its foundation with Allison Williamson. She is grateful to be part of this community, where she continues to explore her intersections of art and life. She lives on Sullivan’s Island in a fixer-upper with her husband and two teenage daughters. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ About the Process: Cecile photographs the subject, usually at her home studio, and works from the reference photography. She has occasionally used previous photographs that the collectors already have. If possible, she will often ask for a short live sitting at the end of the project. If someone is out of town, Cecile can discuss preferred angles, lighting, etc… for photographic references to be sent. For inquiries and more information, contact info@charlestonartistcollective.org
